Temple Emanu-El Visitor Policy

Welcoming Visitors
Temple Emanu-El warmly welcomes Jewish and non-Jewish guests and groups who wish to learn about Judaism, experience a Shabbat service, or accompany members of our congregation. We are a close and caring community that values curiosity, dialogue, and mutual respect.

Requesting an Invitation
Because Temple Emanu-El is a small, active congregation and security is a priority, we ask the following:
1. Please call or email the Temple office at least one week in advance of the service or event you wish to attend: (205) 759-3230 or [email protected].
2. Include your full name, contact information, and reason for your visit (for example, “new to the community,” “visiting family,” “learning about Judaism,” “religious studies project,” etc.). We may ask you for further information.
3. You will receive confirmation and specific details if your request is approved. Attendance is not automatic; we may limit guests at any given time to maintain a comfortable, secure environment.

During Your Visit
We welcome genuine questions about Judaism, our traditions, and community life. Our members are happy to share what it means to live Jewishly in today’s world. However, we ask all visitors to honor the purpose of their visit: to observe and learn, not to persuade. Accordingly, please be respectful:
  • Interfaith dialogue is encouraged, but the sanctity of our Jewish worship and community must be preserved.
  • Please, no proselytizing, witnessing, or attempts to recruit Jewish people to any other faith on Temple grounds or during Temple events.

Our Commitment
Temple Emanu-El seeks to be a place of inclusion, learning, and mutual respect. We are happy to welcome visitors who share these values.
